You may think I’m phoning it in this week, which isn’t entirely inaccurate because I forgot to do this until last minute, but it also happens to be the week of a global cinematic release from friend of the blog, Wes Anderson. Unless you still want to see the latest Mission: Impossible imbroglio, then you have no excuse this week to see anything otherwise (Black Bag is fine actually).
Recommendation of the week
The Phoenician Scheme (Wes Anderson, USA/Germany)
Happy new Wes Anderson film day to all. His latest premiered at Cannes last week, and was shot at the Babelsberg film studio outside of Berlin while I was living in the German capital. I remember keeping my eyes peeled for these actors all summer: Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, Hope Davis, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Alex Jennings, Charlotte Gainsbourg, F. Murray Abraham, and Steve Park. Alas, I saw none of them.
Plot summary: The story of a family and a family business. (nice and short!)
Released in both Germany and the USA! Go see it!
