Who Am I?
An aspiring writer. American-born and currently based in Berlin. I went to film school, minored in English literature, and then studied American media and culture in Germany.
My interests revolve mainly around film and the cinema industry, but will also take detours into other forms of media. I hope to use this platform in order to develop my writing skills. I'm an independent writer with no experience working for film and media sites.
What is Stanley Nolan?
A media blog that started, in name, in 2014 and has been on Substack since March 2021. There are several series and interests that I cover (and that you can find as sections on the main page):
The Weekly Reel is a review of films I've seen in the previous week, organized into recommended rankings (Watch Now, Save for Later, and Pass).
Stand-alone essays on a variety of topics. For example, long reads on the state of the film union and the cinema of Afghanistan. I have many more essays prepared, but they need extensive editing.
Film festival long reads, which are more like creative investigative pieces describing the experience of attending the festival, including film reviews. This section is relatively sparse, but I have plans to attend festivals in the near future.
Pre-Substack posts from my previous blogs (which are mostly just rehashed film school essays and the general musings of a twenty-year-old).
